About the Artist
John Welch grew up riding horses on a farm in Oregon, and has always loved and studied animals. In fact, he was majoring in Wildlife Biology in college with a minor in art, until a family illness forced him into an alternate route.
John spent 23 years with the U.S. Forest Service with a portion of that time spent on horseback with pack animals in the Trinity Alps.
John took an early retirement so he could sculpt full time, but first, he built a home in Northern California. "A Get Away From It All" place in the forest with a beautiful view of majestic Mt. Shasta. A perfect place to create the life-like animals that John loves so much. He shows this through the realism in each sculpture. They are anatomically correct down to the last detail.
During the past 20 plus years, John has sculpted several life-size pieces including a couple of Haida style Totem Poles for individuals and businesses.
He prefers the monument size so his family and friends will remember he was here and left a piece of himself. A piece of his knowledge, his love, his pride and most of all, his talent.
John was a Straight A art student in college but is basically a self-taught sculptor. He has had a life-long interest in all aspects of art and continually strives for perfection.
He has been an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life.
John has many individual bronze pieces for the discriminate art collector.
A Certificate of Authenticity is issued with each bronze sculpture
